Work Description.

  1. Hull treatment – the total area to be repaired and painted was 10,850 m2. Originally, the scope of blasting covered 10% of the surface, however, after the inspection, it was determined that in the underwater part, almost 100% of the hull should be grit blasted and painted. Topside to a lesser extent. After tracing, the hull was painted with three layers of paint.
  2. Inspection and repair of thrusters. The ship is equipped with three bow thrusters and two stern thrusters. Inspections were carried out under the supervision of service engineers from the thruster’s manufacturers (Berg, Schottel, Brunvoll). The crew and shipyard workers participated in the work. The work was carried out in three workshops.
  3. Seals of port and starboard propeller blades were renewed with the participation of a Schottel service engineer and the crew.
  4. Stern tube seals – port and starboard side were renewed by the engineer’s service with the assistance of shipyard employees.
  5. Overhaul of electric motors driving the thrusters (5 pcs.) and electric motors of 2 cranes and Engine Room ventilation motors. The shipowner highly appreciated the quality of the services provided by our subcontractor. Engines weighing several tons had to be transported from the thruster rooms to the workshop. And then, in the same way, transport the motors to the place and install them. Difficult work, but done very well.
  6. Overview of boilers: Oil Fired Boiler and Gas Exhaust Boiler. The boilers were inspected, cleaned and all valves installed on the boilers were inspected.
  7. Cleaning of box coolers no. 1 and 2. The work included disassembly, mechanical and chemical cleaning of the box coolers.
  8. Repair of fire pump suction. Cracks appeared in the suction pipes supplying seawater to the fire pumps. The pipes are located in the Moonpool, which is a kind of well in the hull. The problem was their large diameter and weight.
  9. The inspection of the PB MAN 5L 23/30 auxiliary engine was performed by the shipyard crew under the supervision of our main engine specialist.
  10. Air coolers – main engine and auxiliary engines. The radiators were chemically cleaned and tested.
  11. Anchor chains and anchors. The chains and anchors were lowered onto the dock deck, washed, ranged and marked. The chain lockers were cleared of mud and washed.
  12. Cleaning switchboards – the main and emergency switchboards were cleaned, and the connections were checked and tightened.
  13. Valves – over 50 valves were dismantled from various systems, transported to the workshop and inspected. Pressure tests were performed for outboard valves.
  14. Replacing the cathodic protection of the hull. All zincs (205 pieces) welded to the hull, rudder tunnels, rudder, and sea chests were cut off and new zincs were welded.
  15. Dismantling the lifeboats and transporting them to the workshop. The lifeboats were lowered into the water using cranes and transported to the shipyard, where they were lifted out of the water using a Synchrolift. Then the crew painted the boats and refreshed the markings.

The ship spent 49 days in dock. A very large scope of work was carried out, to the satisfaction of the shipowner. We successfully completed the first ship.
